Joshua M. Abzug, M.D.

Joshua M. Abzug, M.D.

Dr. Abzug is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Director of the University of Maryland Medical System's Brachial Plexus Clinic. Dr. Abzug received his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Drexel University College of Medicine, Hahnemann University Hospital. Dr. Abzug completed his fellowship in hand surgery at Thomas Johnson University Medical College and the Philadelphia Hand Center. He completed a fellowship in pediatric upper extremity and pediatric orthopaedics at the Shriners Hospital for Children of Philadelphia and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Dr. Abzug has special interests in pediatric orthopaedics, pediatric upper extremity, brachial plexus injuries, and adult hand and upper extremity.

Dr. Abzug has completed specialty training in problems related to the entire pediatric upper extremity and fractures involving the whole body. He is actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows as part of his position at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In addition, he teaches numerous physicians at the local, regional, and national levels. Dr. Abzug is also actively involved in various research projects pertaining to the pediatric upper extremity and brachial plexus. He has presented his work locally, nationally, and internationally. Many of his study findings have been published in medical journals, and he is the author of multiple book chapters. Dr. Abzug is board certified in orthopaedic surgery.

Ngozi Akabudike, M.D.

Ngozi Akabudike, M.D.

Dr. Akabudike is an orthopaedic surgeon at the University of Maryland and an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  She is a specialist in surgery of the hand and entire upper extremity. Her interests include care of the following:

  • Fractures, trauma, and amputations
  • Tendon, cartilage, and nerve injuries
  • Athletic and sports-related injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder replacement
  • Rotator cuff disease
  • Dupuytren contracture

Dr. Akabudike is a graduate of Cornell University Medical College. She completed her orthopaedic residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and completed a Hand and Upper Extremity fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University Combined Fellowship program in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Akabudike has authored scientific articles and textbook chapters. She is actively involved in research pertaining to wrist kinematics and arthritis and tendon regeneration strategies.

She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the American Association of Hand Surgeons. She is board certified in orthopaedic surgery.

W. Andrew Eglseder, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Eglseder is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, and an attending Orthopaedic Traumatologist at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. He received his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and served his residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Eglseder also completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Louisville.

Dr. Eglseder's teaching activities include serving as an orthopaedic trauma attending for the Hospital for Joint Diseases, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, University of Maryland Medical Center, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Eglseder is board certified in orthopaedic surgery, with added qualifications in hand surgery.

Raymond A. Pensy, M.D.

Raymond A. Pensy, M.D.

Dr. Pensy is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and an attending orthopaedic traumatologist at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Dr. Pensy received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and he completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Pensy's fellowship in hand surgery was completed at The Curtis National Hand Center at Union Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Pensy has special interests and expertise in hand surgery and orthopaedic traumatology. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery.
