The University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute's long history of providing top-notch health care to the Baltimore region has always been enhanced by its history of support from the community. Since its inception as Kernan Hospital, it has had a strong foundation of philanthropy. The hospital is named for James Lawrence Kernan, the man who bought the hospital's current property in 1905! Over the years, donations from the community have played an integral part in making a great hospital even better.
