The University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute (formerly Kernan Hospital) hosted leaders from the Guangdong Provincial Work Injury Rehabilitation Center in Guangzhou, China, for a three-month collaboration from October to December 2013.
The risk and fear of falling often affects patients who are recovering from a stroke, spinal cord or brain injury, and orthopaedic injuries, and that fear may inhibit their progress in rehabilitation. The University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute is offering a new robotic trolley system providing patients added security and allowing them to overcome that fear, thereby maximizing benefit from therapy.

Kernan Hospital is offering FREE instructional golf clinics for the persons with physical disabilities There will be two sessions with the first clinics running April 29, May 6, 13, 20 and the second session is scheduled June 3, 10, 17, 24. The clinics will be Monday evenings from 4:30p.m.to 6:00p.m. at Kernan Hospital’s accessible golf green. Instruction provided by Forest Park Golf Course PGA professionals and Kernan Hospital Recreational Therapists. The free heart fair takes place February 25, 2013 and coordinates with February Heart Month activities sponsored by University of Maryland Medical System hospitals.
