Beginning May 30, 2009, a new electronic medical record system will enhance the way in which UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation delivers your care.
An electronic medical record is a computerized version of your paper medical record. It delivers a more complete picture of your medical history, allowing your provider to make the best recommendations about your medical care. It also includes your health insurance information and how to contact you.
Advantages of an electronic medical record system
With this new system, your provider can view your complete medical history on the computer, getting immediate access to your information.
The new system automatically cross-checks any new prescriptions your physician is considering to ensure that there are no negative reactions with your allergies or current medications.
Getting test results is time - your provider can review your results as soon as they are posted to your electronic medical record.
Do I have to resubmit my information each time I visit?
You only need to provide your health information one time, after that all you need to do is verify that the information is up-to-date each time you see your health care provider.
Who will have access to my medical information?
The privacy of your medical information is strictly protected. Only medical providers and personnel involved in your care can access your medical record.
What if I need to take my medical record to another clinic or hospital?
Electronic medical records allow your doctors to immediately review and update your medical records at any of the University of Maryland Medical System hospitals once they come online. Information on your medical record may be printed for you to take to a non-University of Maryland Medical System hospital.
