UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute’s respiratory care practitioners apply scientific principals to prevent, identify, and treat acute to chronic dysfunctions of the cardiopulmonary systems.
Our team of professionals is instrumental in helping diagnose, treat, manage, control, rehabilitate and provide preventive care for patients with breathing problems.
UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute’s respiratory Care services provision of care is guided by current clinical practice guidelines published by the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) and other professional organizations. UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute’s Respiratory department utilizes an array of state of the art equipment to provide ongoing and diagnostic support to our in-patient and out-patient community.
Respiratory therapists provide patient and family education to help facilitate self care and integration into the community and to help to encourage patients to obtain the best pulmonary health possible. The department of Respiratory Care services provides inpatient services to a variety of patients 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
In addition to providing care respiratory therapists serve as members on the CODE team and Rapid Response team. The respiratory care practitioners also serve as consultants to nurses, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
All respiratory therapist employed by UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute are licensed and credentialed by the state of Maryland. The Respiratory Care department ensures that UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute’s therapists are skilled and technically competent through in-services education, competency based assessment, testing, and ongoing review of provided services.
