Physical therapist working with a patient

At the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute our team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and healthcare professionals provide the highest-quality rehabilitative care for neurological, orthopedic, musculoskeletal, cardiac and other related diseases and injuries.

As part of the integrated University of Maryland Medical System, our experts at UM Rehab & Ortho work directly with case managers, referring physicians, and care teams to ensure a seamless transition of care. When a patient enters our doors, they can expect that no matter the challenge, our multi-specialty team will chart a future that allows them to live their best life again.

We now offer more than 130 beds on specialized units dedicated to stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, limb loss, and comprehensive medical rehabilitation.

Modern Medical Technology

Since physical, speech, occupational, and recreational therapy are integral parts of our care, we’ve outfitted our large gyms with the latest advancements in medical technology.

This allows our patients to regain strength and mobility, and to train in modern, simulated at-home environments, in order to relearn everyday in-home tasks.

Consultations and Referrals

Patients have access to a variety of consultation and referral services based on their specific needs while undergoing rehabilitation. Physician consultation services include urology, orthopedics, ENT, and neuro-ophthalmology, as well as nutrition and wound care.

Outpatient Care

We provide a wide range of outpatient services on campus, including surgery, neurology, rheumatology, orthopedics, urology, pain management, dentistry and more. For those with limited access to the hospital, we also offer outpatient telehealth services.

Access to Records

Epic, our electronic medical record system, allows our care teams to communicate directly with referring physicians and hospitals.

On-site imaging, labs, and pharmacies create the convenient care that our patients and providers have come to expect when they visit our hospital.

Revolutionary Research

Our research has led to innovative programs that address traumatic injuries. We also train future medical experts to deliver the same high-quality care we have been known for, over the past century.
