The University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute is the only orthopaedic specialty hospital in Maryland offering a broad spectrum of programs for bone, muscle, and joint care. Specialty services include joint replacement surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, foot and ankle surgery, treatment for spine conditions, and pediatric orthopaedics. We also offer many forms of arthritis surgery, which are personalized to meet individual patient needs.
The orthopaedic programs are supported by patient evaluations and education classes before and after surgery. These evaluations and education classes are conducted by a talented group of orthopaedic specialty nurses and rehabilitation therapists. Each patient is followed by a pain management nurse to ensure he or she is comfortable enough to engage in the rehabilitation therapy necessary for optimum recovery. Every effort is made to meet the individual needs of each patient and offer a comfortable environment before, during, and after surgery.
We have dedicated operating room teams thoroughly trained in orthopaedic procedures. These teams are led by an experienced orthopaedic surgical staff. The Intensive Care Unit at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute offers patients who require additional observation access to a critical care management team.
The treatment team consists of experts trained in the postsurgical management of higher acuity orthopaedic patients. They have the capabilities to safely initiate rehabilitation during the patient's intensive care visit.
Patients are cared for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by a team of intensivist physicians and are supported by critical care physicians and nurses with the aid of experienced respiratory therapists.
