Meet UM Rehab Volunteer Daryl.

We invite you to explore the volunteer opportunities available at University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute.

Our diverse group of volunteers share their skills and talent in several areas of the hospital by assisting team members, patients and visitors.

Whether they are in Therapy, Training & Development, Quality, or Patient Experience, our volunteers serve with the common vision that they can make a difference in the health of our community.

The program at UM Rehab includes two types of volunteers: Volunteer or Shadow.

Volunteer

Volunteers serve as patient support, companions, in therapy and other clinical and non-clinical areas.

The requirement is a commitment of a minimum of 50 hours per calendar year spent at UM Rehab & Ortho.

The process to become a volunteer includes completing the application, a background check, health/drug screening and orientation. From start to finish, the process usually takes about one month to complete. The minimum age to volunteer is 16.

Shadow

Shadowing at UM Rehab & Ortho is available for students looking to receive observation hours of up to 8 hours. Those interested in shadowing are required to have an internal sponsor (UM Rehab & Ortho employee) to closely observe the shadowing student. People who shadow cannot have direct patient contact.

The process to begin shadowing includes completing the shadow day application. The minimum age to shadow is 16.
